Matt Wiebe
Biography:
The Hon. MATT WIEBE is Manitoba's Minister of Justice and Attorney General and the minister responsible for Manitoba Public Insurance. The New Democratic Member of the Legislative Assembly for Concordia since 2010, he has served in Premier Wab Kinew's cabinet since October 2023. He was a keynote speaker at the Public Policy Program's May 2025 event on social media disinformation, held with Canadian Mennonite University.
Wiebe was first elected to the Legislature in 2010. In opposition he was whip of the Official Opposition and chair of the Public Accounts Committee, and he served as critic for health, education, municipal relations, infrastructure and, most recently, justice. As Minister of Justice he is also Keeper of the Great Seal of the Province of Manitoba.
He holds a bachelor's degree in economics and a master's degree in public administration. Before entering politics he served on several community boards and with local advocacy groups working on literacy, newcomer services and community safety.
