Ali Salam
Biography:
ALI SALAM is a government affairs and public relations professional, and a former political staff member.
Salam has been working for Sun Life Financial since 2022, and is currently its Assistant VP & Head, Canada, Global Government Affairs and Public Policy. Prior to Sun Life, he was Senior VP, Public Affairs for National Public Relations (2018 to 2020).
Before working in government relations, Salam had two stints as political staff member in the governments of Ontario and Canada. Salam began this chapter working for two years (2009 to 2010) as a Special Assistant to an Ontario MPP. He then spent six months (2010 to 2011) working as Team Lead, National Multicultural Outreach for federal Leader of the Official Opposition.
After two and half year break (2012 to 2014) as Manager, Health Promotion for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Salam returned to politics. He spent a year and half (2014 to 2016) as Director of Policy for Ontario's Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration and International Trade. For the next three years (2016 to 2018), Salam worked as Chief of Staff for a variety of cabinet ministers in Justin Trudeau's federal Liberal government.
Ali Salam has B.A. in Political Science, International Relations, Canadian and
Ontario Government, from York University (2006), and a M.A. in Political Studies, International Relations, Defence and Immigration (2007).
