Walter Gordon Symposium — Policymaking for a Well Society
This year’s Symposium is entitled “Policymaking for a Well Society”. It will focus in on three major themes at the core of how our societies thrive or struggle - environment, health and housing. By dissecting each of these policy topics in detail this year’s symposium hopes to make us reflect on where we have done well and where we can do better.
Keynote — John Ibbitson of The Globe & Mail
We are pleased to welcome John Ibbitson of the Globe and Mail as the keynote for the 2020 Walter Gordon Symposium. He will be speaking on his recent book, co-authored with Darrell Bricker, “Empty Planet: The Shock of Global Population Decline” followed by a question and answer session.
The Walter Gordon Symposium is named after the Hon. Walter Gordon, who was Minister of Finance and President of the Privy Council under the government of Lester B. Pearson. The annual series, which began in 1990 under the leadership of then head of the College, Ann Saddlemeyer, was designed to present a topic of immediate Canadian significance to an interested audience drawn from academic, corporate and government worlds.
The event is co-sponsored by Massey College and the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy with support by Tom Axworthy (Massey’s Chair in Public Policy) and Carolyn Tuohy (Distinguished Fellow, Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy and Senior Fellow, Massey College).
